Description
In ancient times mental illnesses did not have the same explanation that we give them today. Following the positivist school, all demonological explanation of psychopathologies was left behind. The advances in psychology and psychiatry allowed to have a greater understanding on the functioning of the mind of the human being, and inevitably that led to the study of the psychiatric delinquent. The present text makes a historical review about the conception of mental illnesses and the problems they represent in Mexico. It ends with a criminological proposal that emphasizes the need to contribute to psychiatric detention centers.
